2022 Reflection

| 2 min read

First, this blog is dedicated to my anxious self who is always in doubt to remind myself that things turn out to be good. 2022 was incredible year. Not the best start, but it ended in a wonderful way.

As December 2021 was my last month in my previous company, I started the year without any employment, but this wasn’t my biggest fear. At that time, I was about starting the last semester in my master’s degree, and I really needed time to focus on study. This, however, didn’t last long as in March I got the opportunity to start at my current job.

How is it being?

Joining a corporate was something that I was always interested in. Many different challenges. People always complain about bureaucracy in such organizations, but it seems significant when you deal with tons of teams with diverse specializations. Is there any away to accelerate things? I hope so and I’m eager to know.

For my older job, I joined as application planning specialist, which is a fancy name for project manager. It wasn’t my first time doing such a job, but by the end of the year, I’ve come to realize I’m not a good fit for such work, I challenged myself to be more outgoing so I can handle the large number of stakeholders in every task, but I find myself leaning toward being introvert. Plus, I missed the joy of participating in doing a tangible work. By the end of 2022, I finally decided I should transition elsewhere and at the time of writing this blog I’m very excited to land another job. This will be my 4th company in less than 6 years. I was told this wouldn’t be look nice on my CV, but who cares! Life is too short to be miserable.

What else?

By the end of July, I have finally done my exams and defended my thesis. Was the whole thing useful? I really don’t know. Studying in a Sudanese institute isn’t always the rewarding experience. Universitas lack resources and good staff, but I got to do my final project in an area which is always have been an interest. I may write about it in a coming blog. I’ve also known many people who were a great add in my professional network and supported me in different areas.

Freelancing?

If I can highlight one more significant thing happened in 2022, it will be being able to land a good project for a startup company. I was little doubtful while preparing the proposal on whether or not I was able to do such a project by myself, but I was lucky enough that things worked perfectly and are having a good progress until now. It was a good chance to return back to coding after a long break.

How the 2022 ended?

Finally, On December I was fortunate to travel for a vacation for the first time ever. I’m obsoletely grateful that I was able finance this trip even though it was some luxurious to some extend (my wallet screams in the corner), but YOLO, right????
